There's a very nice description of the vaccine and how it works on the Michael J Fox Foundation web site, and also a pod cast of an interview with one of the vaccine researchershttp://blog.michaeljfox.org/2011/12/podcast-a-clinical-study-of-a-pd-vaccine/ They call it a "therapeutic vaccine" because at this point it would be used as a treatment to break up existing clumps of the protein alpha-synuclein in the brain for those who already experiencing symptoms. In the future they hope to also use it to prevent or slow the progression. The Fox Foundation has heavily funded this research, sponsored by Austrian biotech AFFiRiS. The phase I trial will be in Austria.

Steve

It is my understanding that this vaccine treats the causes of PD, so it would be a “cure”, but I could be wrong. Maryse and Meg what do you say?
