Hi,
Re balance...I underwent an experimental DBS, specifically targetting
the area of the brain which deals with balance issues(PPN) back in 2009.The
initial results were fantastic, the day after the op' I could walk with no
balance problems, I could talk
and my sense of smell returned, and there were no more tremors or
dyskenesias, It was a shame that all of these good points slowly went away
after one week, never to reappear, despite numerous visits to the hospital to
fine tune the stimulators.
I had a standard DBS (STN)
a year later which has helped but it certainly hasn't been the " Fix All "
that I had been hoping for.
I am still falling over approx' 3 times a day, would be more if I didn't use
my walker.
1/ I think that high dosage of Madopar ( sinemet eqv) contributes towards
falling
2/ I think that Neupro patches contribute to obsessive behaviour problems,
I am now on ropinerole which is not a lot better to be honest
3/ If anyone has any ideas about solving the balance problems please can you
let us know !!

Regards,
Nigel Harland age 57, dx 1989
