I have a "crash" helmet I sometimes wear in the kitchen where I fell 3 
times, got a black eye and head lump.  Its so hot here  in Arizona I don't 
wear it as often as I should.

There are hip pads and things that fit into clothing for extra protection. 
Certainly not a solution but perhaps a buffer against injury.
