2013 and the 113th Congress
2012 ended in a rush of negotiations around the "fiscal cliff" and in the early days of 2013, the lame-duck 112th Congress approved H.R. 8, the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. The fiscal cliff deal only temporarily postponed the across-the-board cuts, known as sequestration, by two months. It is hugely disappointing that sequestration decisions were pushed to early March, continuing the very real threat of serious cuts to biomedical research. This underscores the importance of PAN's advocacy work in 2013. Click here to read more.
PAN Mourns the Passing of Dr. William Weiner
The Parkinson's Action Network mourns the loss of Dr. William Weiner, Chairman of Neurology at the University of Maryland and Director of the Maryland Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center. He passed away December 29, 2012. Dr. Weiner's wife is Dr. Lisa Shulman, Professor of Neurology and Co-Director of Maryland Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center. Click here to read more.

Show Support for Veterans with Parkinson's
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has issued a proposed rule to make it easier for veterans to receive health care and compensation for certain illnesses -- including parkinsonism, dementia, and depression -- linked to traumatic brain injury. Karl Friedl Joins PAN Board of Directors
Colonel Karl Friedl (Ret.), former Director of the U.S. Army Medical Research & Materiel Command's Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), has joined the board of directors of the Parkinson's Action Network. As TATRC Director, Friedl oversaw the Neurotoxin Exposure Treatment Parkinson's Research program, which examines how best to protect military personnel from toxic substances, head injury, and other possible contributors to Parkinson's disease.
