I agree with Maryse that  it varies and  you just won't know until you try. 
the  uncertainty of treatments is another awful thing about PD.  DBS stopped 
my tremors and I don't  know how much else.  In first  couple of years after 
diagnosis I tried Sinemet and after one pill it was great, but  never again. 
agonists never  helped.  amantadine helped couple of years ago but   I  had 
horrible hallucinations. I don't take PDmeds, but will try Rytary when it 
comes out.  I've heard that a few people have taken meds t hat work for a 
long time with no /sides, but its kind of rare I think.

It varies from case to case. 'My' JOhn went for 10 years without treatment
but was loosing his independence. Regained it all once he started the
treatment and to the end (>20 years PD) was able to dress/shower/eat alone.
He kept his treatment simple: sinemet +- cannabis
maryse ex cg JOhn, died aged 81 after>20 years PD
