Dear Inkshedders and colleagues,
The January 2104 Inkshed Newsletter is now available at www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/january-2014-newsletter-2/.
It starts with a link to the call for proposals for the Inkshed 30
conference, intriguingly titled "Taking Risks in Writing, Research,
and Teaching." That will happen in Waterloo, Ontario from May 27 to
29, just after the CWCA and CASDW conferences down the road in St.
Catharines. Proposals are due by March 15. Follow the link to read
more.
Then it offers three pieces for reading and reference:
- In preparation for the 2014 AGM, a list of current CASLL-L
board members. (N.B.: I'd also like to include the
minutes of the 2013 AGM, so if you took them, or know who did,
please let me know!)
- An article on Multilingual Learners by Theresa Hyland,
building on current theoretical ideas to formulate six practical
teaching strategies. The Reply box after the article invites you
to respond with your own comments and ideas—to do some online
inkshedding, in fact.
- Two poems by Carl Leggo about the miracle of pre-linguistic
communication between a child called Mirabelle and her
grandfather.
While you're on the site, you may also want to look at the September
2013 Inkshed Newsletter at www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/september-2013-newsletter/.
That issue was set up in the right month, but
hoped-for contributions didn’t arrive, so I never declared it
finished.
- But don't miss three more of Carl Leggo's witty and touching
poems about language and literacy.
- This issue also contains my report to the Inkshed AGM of June
2013, in which I complained that nobody ever sent anything to
the newsletter. That's not quite true, obviously, but I would be
delighted to receive more evidence to the contrary.
Hoping to hear back from some of you with further contributions to
keep Inkshed Newsletters lively and stimulating,
Margaret Procter
