Hi--I am new to this listserv. To introduce myself, I am a retired professor living in
Smithfield, Virginia and teaching part-time at Old Dominion University. I spent 6
weeks at the University of Winnipeg on a Fulbright Specialist grant and
subsequently attended and spoke at a CASDW conference (2012). I became very
interested in differences and connections between Canadian and U.S. writing
studies, and am continuing to research that topic.
I joined the CASSLL listserv because I am currently working with Andrea Williams,
Jennifer Clary-Lemon, and Derek Mueller on a collaborative research project
studying interdependencies between writing studies in Canada and the U.S. Some
of you may have heard about the project. We are each pursuing different strands
of the project, which we will present on for the first time at the international
writing studies conference (WRAB) in Paris coming up in February.
In my part of the project, I have been studying the writings of Canadian scholars
to understand how they have contributed to rhetoric, composition, and writing
studies beyond Canadian borders. I will be approaching this in my Paris
presentation by focusing on 4 scholars and 4 genres they have written in, using
these pairings as a lens on the different traditions of Canadian writing studies and
their participation in national and international scholarly networks. I am
approaching my presentation as a critical appreciation of Canadian work.
One of the scholars I've chosen is Jim Reither, and the genre I am using for him is
the Inkshed newsletter. I've contacted him, and he has been very helpful. But I
wanted to use a picture of him alongside the other scholars in my presentation,
and he was unable to provide a good one. The only one he and I could come up
with was a very small image that won't work very well alongside the others.
He gave me permission to write to this list and see if any of you could provide an
appropriate photo of him that could be sent to me electronically. The others I have
show one scholar speaking at a podium, another at her desk. I would love to have
one of him speaking at an Inkshed conference, for instance. (Jim says he mostly
took the photos rather than being photographed.) But any good head and
shoulders shot would work.
I feel that I know many of you after reading through a large number of Inkshed
newsletters as well as accounts of Inkshed conferences. I have been fascinated to
read about this community and would much appreciate any help you could give on
this score.
