(UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nWhere: WB215 - 200 College Street\n\n*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*\n\n\nHi All\,\n\nSOCAAR is pleased to announce the next SOCAAR Seminar:\n\nFriday\, March 13\, 2015\, 11AM to 12PM\n200 College Street – WB215\n\n\nENGINEERING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY:\nTHE CHALLENGE OF SUSTAIN ABILITY\n\nCliff I. Davidson\n Director\, Center for Sustainable Engineeri ng\n\nDepartment of Civil & Environmental Engineering\nand Center for Envi ronmental and Energy Systems\nSyracuse University \, New York\n\n\n\nThe n eeds of society and ways to meet those needs are changing rapidly\, as bot h global population and affluence rise. Engineering students currently bei ng trained at many of the nation’s universities are only now starting to learn about the new constraints of economic\, social\, and environmental sustainability in their programs. These constraints also affect the way pr ofessional engineering firms are responding to client needs\, despite the fact that most practicing engineers have not been trained in sufficient de pth to account for long-term changing availability of input resources and the need for reduced outputs of waste in their design of products and proc esses. In this seminar\, we explore (1) the knowledge and skills future en gineers must develop to be ready for the challenges of this century\, (2) what engineering programs at U.S. colleges and universities are doing to p repare future engineers to meet these challenges\, and (3) what the public does and doesn’t understand about technology and the impacts of day-to- day decisions on environmental sustainability. This last topic is an area of active research\n\n\n\nIf you are unable to join us for the seminar in person\, we will be broadcasting the presentations live during the seminar using GoToMeeting software. Please feel free to join us online using a we b-browser or by calling in and using the webviewing software. If you do de cide to join us\, please remember to mute your microphone. If you have an y questions during the meeting you are welcome to contact me by email\, or by using the GoToMeeting chat.\n\n\nInstructions on how to connect:\n\nUs ing your web-browser or smartphone\n\n\nhttps://global .gotomeeting.com/join/643690605\n\n\n\nDial +1 (647) 497-9350\nAccess Code : 643-690-605\nAudio PIN: Shown after joining the meeting\n\n\n\nMeeting I D: 643-690-605\n\n\n SUMMARY;LANGUAGE=en-CA:SOCAAR Seminar - Cliff Davidson DTSTART;TZID=Eastern Standard Time:20150313T110000 DTEND;TZID=Eastern Standard Time:20150313T120000 UID:040000008200E00074C5B7101A82E0080000000083C190ACD755D001000000000000000 010000000FF36227958139F48814CC561003D3543 CLASS:PUBLIC PRIORITY:5 DTSTAMP:20150303T173114Z TRANSP:OPAQUE STATUS:CONFIRMED SEQUENCE:0 LOCATION;LANGUAGE=en-CA:WB215 - 200 College Street X-MICROSOFT-CDO-APPT-SEQUENCE:0 X-MICROSOFT-CDO-OWNERAPPTID:2113085059 X-MICROSOFT-CDO-BUSYSTATUS:TENTATIVE X-MICROSOFT-CDO-INTENDEDSTATUS:BUSY X-MICROSOFT-CDO-ALLDAYEVENT:FALSE X-MICROSOFT-CDO-IMPORTANCE:1 X-MICROSOFT-CDO-INSTTYPE:0 X-MICROSOFT-DISALLOW-COUNTER:FALSE BEGIN:VALARM ACTION:DISPLAY DESCRIPTION:REMINDER TRIGGER;RELATED=START:-PT15M END:VALARM END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
