Nancy

I had botox for dystonia in my left leg during my first 7-8 years of PD,
but didn't think it helped so I stopped the injections.

I don't think dystonia necessarily affects an entire hand or limb. This
year the middle finger of my left hand is twisted and painful, but getting
my batteries replaced and reprogrammed has helped somewhat.

You and I are at different stages of this disease so its hard to draw
conclusions. I'm right handed too, but both have always been affected.
As far as I know, your hands will be affected by PD. You need to see a
neurologist who is a movement disorder specialist.

What caused your accident/injury? Where do you live?

THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING TO MY MESSAGE. I HAVE BEEN 'MESSING AROUND' SEEING
HAND SURGEONS FOR THE PAST YEAR OR SO AND HAD ONLY ONE OF THEM THAT WAS
WILLING TO DO SURGERY - THAT IS UNTIL HE FOUND OUT THAT I HAVE PD. NOW HE
ISN'T WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. THERE WAS A BIT OF CONFUSION IN MY SITUATION
BECAUSE I WAS INJURED IN 11/2013 WHERE I ENDED UP LAYING ON MY LEFT ARM FOR
3 DAYS. THIS TOOK PLACE BEFORE I HAD A CONFIRMED PD DIAGNOSIS. I HAVE HAD
TO GO THROUGH SEVERAL ROUNDS OF THERAPY FOR MY SHOULDER AND HAND. ONLY 3
FINGERS ON MY LEFT HAND ARE STIFF AND NONE OF THE HAND SURGEONS CAN TELL ME
WHY. IF IT IS DYSTONIA, ONE WOULD THINK THAT MY ENTIRE HAND WOULD BE
AFFECTED. FORTUNATELY I AM RIGHT-HANDED AND IT IS NOT AFFECTED. HAVE YOU
HAD BOTOX INJECTIONS FOR THE STIFFNESS IN YOUR HANDS? IF SO, DID IT HELP
YOU?
