I have been taking paroxetine (Paxil) for several years now, primarily as a sleep aid, secondarily for anxiety. My neurologist first tried clonazepam which, if anything, had a negative effect on my sleep quality. I started with 10 mg paroxetine, then upped it to 20. The results were night and day: I went from 0 (zero) REM sleep to normal levels, and my anxiety attacks subsided. All this came about because I had to stop taking Mirapex (pramipexole) due to some serious compulsive behaviors brought on by the drug. Withdrawal was acute (I could describe it less euphemistically) for about a month and lasted several more. Good luck on the search for the right "blend" of meds for your situation. If you haven't already done so, I might also recommend you find a counselor who could help you deal with the anxiety via additional means. I found it helpful. Anxiety and depression are still, in my opinion, underemphasized in PD treatment and must be taken seriously.
