Moving writing centre work into student learning centres may decrease the quality and quantity of students' learning, but it does save money--at SFU, as I remember, undergraduate peer tutors replaced professional instructors to a significant extent--and if you measure only number of tutor-student interactions it can be made to look as as if one is "doing more with less."

Great article and depressing given all the hard work in the past decade being dismantled as writing centres are being moved into student learning commons
