Correlations between O/C and hygroscopicit y (or cloud condensation nuclei activity)\, represented by κorg\, are a c omputationally efficient approach to estimate the impact of aerosol aging on cloud formation and climate\; however\, previously reported correlation s between these two variables are largely empirical and vary widely in the ir slopes and extrapolations to high O/C values. I will present a theoreti cal framework based on inferred molecular formulas (CxHyOz) to constrain t he relationships between κorg\, O/C\, volatility\, and molecular size. I will use the theoretical framework to analyze previously-reported data for observed κorg of highly oxidized OA to extract additional information on physicochemical properties of organic aerosol.\n\n\nIf you are unable to join us for the seminar in person\, we will be broadcasting the presentati ons live during the seminar using GoToMeeting software. Please feel free t o join us online using a web-browser or by calling in and using the webvie wing software. If you do decide to join us\, please remember to mute your microphone. If you have any questions during the meeting you are welcome to contact me by email\, or by using the GoToMeeting chat.\n\n1.
