                  Dear Parkinson’s Community:

Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Parkinson's policy and advocacy and a momentous change for the Parkinson's Action Network (PAN). With gratitude to all who have supported PAN's work, we are proud to announce that the boards of directors of PAN and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) have voted to begin operating as a single organization, moving public policy and advocacy efforts to a new Public Policy department at MJFF.

Within the coming months, PAN will cease to operate as an independent organization and our leadership and programs will move to MJFF. A new Unified Parkinson’s Advocacy Council will gather with representatives from state, regional and national Parkinson’s organizations to offer field-wide input on policy priorities. PAN’s grassroots leaders program, which has been essential to strengthening local support for policies that benefit patients, will transition to MJFF, and a new Public Policy Council will provide expert guidance on policy strategies.

This development comes as the result of extensive planning by the leadership of PAN and MJFF and an open dialogue with patients and close supporters of both organizations. With many new opportunities and challenges ahead for the Parkinson's community, it is vital that our policy and advocacy work continues to align with the community's evolving priorities. Combining our organizations will help us integrate our research, advocacy and community engagement efforts more thoroughly and enhance our ability to provide a unified voice for the Parkinson's community in public policy. Importantly, this will allow us to advance several key issues, including regulatory policy around drug development and approvals, disability policy, caregiving, and ensuring our health care delivery system is sensitive to the needs of those impacted by Parkinson’s.

As we prepare to join MJFF, we extend our gratitude to all of our partner organizations, grassroots advocates, volunteers, contributors, staff, and board members for their service to PAN. Thank you for your tireless commitment to our community, and we look forward to continuing to work side by side in this exciting new era for Parkinson's policy and advocacy.

For more details on the forthcoming integration of PAN and MJFF, please see the official press release. To learn more about MJFF’s new public policy department and read a white paper summarizing community priorities for Parkinson’s public policy, visit www.michaeljfox.org/policy.

                  Sincerely,
