Anyone here have any experience with or knowledge
of nicotinamide ribose or nicotinamide adenine
dinucleotide (NADH) or nicotinamide adenine
dinucleotidephosphate (NADPH)?

Nicotinamide ribose is a B vitamin and is
available over the counter. I believe it has
been officially approved for use with PD.

A friend who does not have PD told me he started
taking it for sleep problems and an assorment of
difficulties asociated with depression and
chronic pain, and that he shows remarkable
improvement across the board; he is enthusiastic
about it. Our GP took a look at the literature in
pubmed and elsewhere (below), and gave it her OK
for both PD patient and care-giver (me). As did
her neurologist, a PD specialist. Here are the
citations.

MORE RECENT is this intriguing item based on work
of Peter Sinclair, MD of Harvard Med School:

Nicotinide ribose

"Dr Sinclair, see above, patented a precurser for
Nad, helping the cells sirtuins functionning like
young ones. Ours function at 40%.

"It is a b3 vitamin analog. No Rx. Got mine here

My friend writes:
>Nad+ dose: FOR ME, 180 POUNDS, i take 2Å~ 125mg
>pill before breakfast since it affwcts your
>circadian cycle. I dont know when you wake up
>but this is the right time. If i take some in
>the afternoon, i dont sleep at night.
>For your wife, light weight, maybe starting with
>only one. And evaluate after 2 months. There is
>no known side effects with doses up to 1000 mg,
>the max dose given during trials conducted by dr
>Sinclair. Your system will not make use of nad
>if the sirtuins receptors are all filled anyway.
>I know a man who guinea pigged himself with a
>dose of 5000 mg. No side effects but not more
>effective than 1000.
>I stopped taking it for 3 weeks, being lousy
>about reordering and my before life reappeared:
>my acouphen, my elbow pain, bad sleep, lower
>optimism... it works!

I would be interested to hear from list members. Thanks.
