I wouldn't get my hopes up for this approach: 1- the referenced article
seems very PR-ish to me, 2- Punch news is published in Nigeria (home of
many past scams) and 3- a quick scan of google-search results shows that
everyone else is using the same words to describe it, as if they were
cherry picking key phrases from the same article(s).  So, I'd be very
patient with this one.

About using existing DBS hardware for this, I'd give it a wholehearted
"maybe". There is some mention of using the wand in conjunction with
currents in the brain. Perhaps these currents could be generated by the DBS
stimulator? It's a stretch, especially since med device companies make more
money each time they reinvent the wheel (pardon my cynicism).
