n\n\nAbstract: As Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) technology grows in mark
et share in automotive markets around the world\, concerns have arisen due
to their elevated emissions of particulate matter (PM) from both environm
ental and human health perspectives. The current state of understanding of
particle formation inside GDI engines will be presented along with some i
ssues in measuring and quantifying GDI particulate matter emissions. Exhau
st after treatment technologies for mitigation of particulate tailpipe emi
ssions will also be reviewed\, both current practice and new developments.
The seminar will conclude by identifying specific research areas requirin
