nova\nOutreach Coordinator\nClean Air Partnership\nAbstract: This seminar
will focus on findings from the King Street Pilot Study on Mobility and En
vironmental Perception. The study was part of a multi-component study of p
opulation and environmental impacts of the King Street Transit Pilot in th
e City of Toronto. The Pilot presented a unique opportunity to investigate
how significant alterations within urban transportation systems can chang
e human behaviour and perceptions about transportation environments. For t
his reason\, a comprehensive assessment was developed to explore travel be
haviour on King Street and individuals’ perception of the environment. T
he results show a notable and positive impacts of the Pilot on user experi
ence and perceptions of safety on King Street. Furthermore\, the Survey St
udy found that citizens’ perceptions of air quality and noise levels on
King Street improved after the Pilot implementation. These findings will b
e presented in the context of observed changes in environmental quality an
d complemented by a discussion on challenges and opportunities presented b
y ‘natural experiments’ and research on built environment intervention
