Sandy, your words so accurately encapsulate David that I wonder what else any of us has to add other than our many personal stories of the impact he had on our lives and scholarship. Thank you. With your permission, I will share your tribute with MRDS and SEMA (the Southeastern Medieval Association), another group whose members have been saddened to learn of David's passing.
Diane, you have summed things up in a nutshell. Every tribute I have seem emphasizes the same qualities and impact of this generous man who was friend and mentor to so many of us in early drama. We are all richer for having known David.
I would like to see Helen's tribute. Can someone share it, please?
On another note, some of you might not be aware of the passing of Steve Wright in July. Steve, a scholar of German drama (among other things), was the long-time editor of the MRDS partner publication series EEDTS. He was a colleague and friend to many in MRDS and very much a part of my early years as a medieval drama scholar. Seeing him at MRDS sessions at Kalamazoo was always a pleasure, and in more recent years, I have enjoyed seeing Steve’s manuscript page posts and exchanging medieval art and drama observations with him. His photos from his international travels have been a creative window on the world for his many FB friends. Only the week before his death, he and I exchanged citations and research notes and had a lively discussion of the influence of early German drama in the Czech Lands. The world has lost another marvelous human being who enriched my life and the lives of so many others. He, too, was a generous scholar, willing to mentor others and share his insights, especially in his field of early German drama.
The recent loss of these two men and of our REED friend, editor Audrey Douglas, in such short order, is truly sad for those of us who knew them personally and is also a loss to those who knew only their scholarship. Their passing makes their scholarly contributions all the more important. I know that their legacy will continue to impact our field in years to come. All will all be missed.
Thank you REED-L members for sharing your tributes.

Sad news indeed. I remember how profound an influence he had in the early days of REED.
Thanks, Sandy!

Thank you, Sandy, for this lovely piece. What continues to strike me as I read across the reminiscences of so many of our colleagues and peers on social media is how, for so many of us, David Bevington was a profound mentor and guide; generous, considerate, encouraging. He was a person to learn from and aspire to be.We are better for his kindness as well as for his wisdom.
A beautiful tribute-it is so sad to lose such a great scholar and teacher.

Certainly, Milla. I would be happy to have my tribute included if you do make a collection of them. Did you see the one by Helen Ostovich?

Dear Alexandra:
I am working with a few people to do a tribute to David at the next SAA meeting. One of the things I believe we might do is collect written tributes.
yours is so beautiful and so completely on target (how he was able to remain so open throughout such a long life to anyone young with energy and good ideas is a mystery) that I hope you would allow us to include it in such a collection if we do actually make one.
Thank you,Hoping you are well,Milla Riggio
