Hello Barbara, and everyone else.

Thank you for your welcome. I was very glad to learn of the existence of
this list. My mother, who lives in Alabama, was diagnosed with Parkinson's
about 5 years ago (she is now 75). She has more and more difficulty --
she gets around in the house with a wheeled walker, outside she has to be
in a wheelchair. But one of the worst problems that she has to deal with,
is that she cannot eat properly any more, and has to rely on liquid
nutrition. This diminishes her quality of life quite severely. The
problems with mobility around the mouth and throat also affect her speech,
so that it is hard for her to make herself understood.

She keeps her spirits up remarkably well, in the fact of these problems,
but obviously it is hard for her, and also hard for my sister, who looks
after her. I would like very much for my sister to be able to read this
list. She is not online at present, but very shortly she will be able to
receive email at her office, through Compuserve. Does anyone know whether
Compuserve users can receive lists like this one?

I have read through the archived list postings for January, and I was
interested to read the discussions on nutrition. My mother has recently
been told by her doctor of a liquid nutrition scheme specially designed
for Parkinson patients, i.e., formulated to give maximum nutritional
benefit without interfering with the medication. Does anyone know of this
product? I am sorry I can't remember the name of it -- apparently it is
not available through drugstores without approval from one's doctor.

Best wishes to all,
