At our support group in Anchorage, a "swallowing" specialist told us that
sucking on ice chips before eating will stimulate the swallowing reflex.

Re: foreign drugs
If you know the address of a U.S. drug company, an inquiry can be directed to
the International Marketing division. Since you say the drug is French, a

If the drug is available in Canada, they can give you the name of a pharmacy.
You supply to them a written prescription from your doctor (drug may be
named something else in US). A doctor in the pharmacy may have to co-sign it
for a small fee. With your credit card #, you can have the drug in a few
days. Hope this gives you a few routes to travel. Do not give up; keep
asking questions if this does not work. This system is legal. Sometimes my
drug is rerouted to US customs before I receive it; usually not. I am
getting US Parsidol (no longer in production), Parsitan Canada.

Let us know how you make out.
