In response to Dale Hendler's inquiry and information previously distributed
on the list, here is some information on a video tape series on the

Stephen Rosenholtz. 4 two hour videocassettes;. each cassette contains

differentiating shoulder and hip, what is good posture.
Series 1, tape 2: imaginary movements, coordinate flexors and
extensors, the two hemispheres of the brain, twist to sit.
Series 2, tape 1: rolling fists, extend your spine, what is good

Series 2, tape 2: chair lesson, holding the foot and rolling,

We have a copy of the tapes in the library at the University of Maryland. I
am not qualified to evaluate the tapes which were ordered by our Dance
department. The following is a review from the brochure for the tapes. It
was originally excerpted from YOGA JOURNAL, September 1990; the review was
written by Peggy Kelly. Her review, as reprinted in the ad, is repeated here
without the expressed knowledge and/or permission of either Peggy Kelly or Dr.
Rosenholtz:

"Imagine a six-month-old infant awake in her crib: Perpetual motion
might describe her activities. Every sight, every sound, every odor, every
vibration causes a reaction in this magnificant developing human being.
Imagine her in the arms of her father or mother--the stimulation of speech
and topuch on her new nervous system, the tracks that are being laid down in
her neuromuscular system as she responds to offers of food and speech and
love.
Now imagine a small group of adults lying on their backs on the
carpet, knees bent. Hear an instructor direct them to slowsly bend and
unbend knees toward chest and to observe the changes in the body-mind after
a simple, gentle movement. He directs the group to move for their own
comfort and "never into pain". Such scenes occur in several of Stephen
Rosenholtz's series of four videotapes -- BASIC LESSONS IN AWARENESS THROUGH
MOVEMENT: THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD.
Moshe Feldenkrais, a pioneer in the field of somatic education,
developed a powerful method of body-mind integration over his fifty year
career. Rosenholtz was one of his students. Feldenkrais' essential genius,
it seems, was to find ways of communicating abstract ideas to people by
having them perform physical movements that concretize the abstractions.
This enabled his pupils to come to a full understanding not just throught
the intellect but through the body as well. His method is simple, direct
and effective.
Through the deceptivly simple exercises outlined in Rosenholtz's
lessons, increased freedom of movement with an accompanying reduction in
stress and tension is possible.
For anyone interested in the Feldenkrais Method, Rosenholtz's
lessons will provide a solid, through, and satisfying introduction."

Again, I have no idea how good this is beyond the review I reprinted.
However I have heard that a karate magazine also reviewed the tapes
favorably recently. Best wishes to all. Hope that this is useful
information.
