I now have provisional details of the York pageants to be played in
the streets of York on Sunday 10 July 1994. The production is
directed by Jane Oakshott, in association with the York Early Music
Festival and York University Centre for Medieval Studies.
*************
Nine plays are being performed processionally, most of them on
waggons, at 5 stations: The Building of the Ark, The Flood, The
Annunciation and Visitation, The Nativity, The Shepherds, The Entry
into Jerusalem, The Way to Calvary, the Resurrection, and The
Assumption of the Virgin.
**
Performance at the first station is due to begin at 12 noon: the
last play should end at the fifth station around 6 p.m. Standing
room is free. There is also some seating at Station 4, at which the
first play should start around 2 p.m. Booking a seat here
guarantees entry and a seat should wet-weather plans (on Station 4
timetable) have to be put into operation. The plays are divided
into two sessions: 1) Old Testament and Ministry; 2) Passion and
After. The cost is #4.50 per session or #8.00 for both.
**
Booking opens on 1 June 1994: write to Ticket World, 6 Patrick
Pool, YORK, England, or telephone (0)904 644194.
Those attending the International Medieval Congress in Leeds,
4-7 July, may like to book as part of a York Medieval Events
Weekend, designed for medieval specialists (and others!) and
following directly on the Congress: for details and booking form
