Hello all! My name is Ann Strozewski. I have been reading this group
for a couple of weeks now so I thought it was about time I introduced
myself. I am interested in this group because my mother was diagnosed with
Parkinson's disease last year, at the age of 52. She remains quite active
physically and also seems to be handling things very well emotionally.
The biggest problem right now, in my opinion, is that her doctor does
not seem to be particularly helpful. Admittedly, right now there is not
much that a doctor can really do other than prescribe the usual medica-
tions (in this case, Eldepryl). But I know that as the disease progresses,
it will become increasingly important to have a close doctor-patient
interaction and to have a doctor who will really listen to her. Her current
doctor paints a very bleak view of her future and seems generally uninter-
ested in any further discussion. I have been encouraging her to find
someone new, especially since reading so many accounts of people who seem
to be doing very well under the care of their respective physicians and
who have great successes with new treatment techniques (e.g., pallidotomy).
I have enjoyed reading this group so far and look forward to future
  discussions!
