I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago at the age of 49. At that time, I
started taking selegiline. I did not notice any change in my condition
until last January. At that time, a very dear friend of mine was
murdered....same type of thing as Nicole Brown Simpson. My desk is
located right in front of her office door. Anyway, it was, and still is,
a very traumatic and tragic event. My family noticed that my speech was
slower, slurred, and quiet. My movements were very slow and I was very
tired. The neurologist added Sinemet to my meds and, after an initial
problem with the drug, I have been taking it ever since. I have had to
use a cane and go to physio for knee problems related to parkinson's. I
have been referred to a physiatrist (sp?) for that problem.

I am still working (on vacation right now) and don't plan on quitting
anytime soon. As a secretary, it is possible for me to continue. A
surgeon or a high-wire walker at my stage would have to quit.

So, when the literature says the progression of parkinson's is variable
from one person to another....that's very true. One of the 'interesting'
things about parkinson's is that it is variable from one day to the next
in the same person.

That's my story about the progression of parkinson's.
