My father-in-law (age 81 1/2) was diagnosed with Parkinsons 6 years ago.
His current meds include Eldepryl (5mg per day) and Sinemet CR 50/200 (2
tablets, 3x day). He is also a diabetic (completely controlled by diet) and
has severe osteoarthritis with complete destruction of both knees.
Unfortunately he has a great deal of knee pain but cannot take NSAIDS
because of an allergy. No one seems to be able to determine how much of his
inability to walk more than a few steps is related to Parkinsons and how
much to the arthritis. He has been told that the only solution is to have a
total knee replacement. He is scheduled to have both knees replaced in
October. Does anyone have any experience with joint replacement in
Parkinsonians after diagnosis? Does anyone have any suggestions?
