   FYI - Apomorphine Hydrochloride
Actions and Uses
Centrally acting emetic prepared by treatmorphine with diluted hydrochloric
acid; retains ability to produce CNS excitation and depression. Induses
vomiting by direct stimulation on chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ), and
possibly by excitation of vestibular centers. Also, depresses medullary
center that ciontrols respiration and vasomotor tone and stimulates
salivation. (Much like a BBQ sandwich - JF) Elevates plasma levels of human
growth hormone and reduses serum prolactin levels by stimulating dopamine
receptors. Reduces tremor and regidity in parkinsonism and levodopa-induced
chloreiform movements and dyskinesia. Has sedative and hypnotic action in
small nonemetic doses. Primary theraputic use is to produce emesis.
particularly after oral ingestion of poisons.
Adverse Reactions
Salivation, nausea, lacrimation, perspiration, weakness, fatigue, dizziness,
hypotension, fainting; CNS stimulation.
