Dear Networkers; Congratulations to Bill Johnson for a very interesting
paper. I read it over the weekend and found it to be informative, and some
beyond my knowledge of the physiology and biochemistry. I hope that those of
you who have read it will comment on it. One question: In Part 5, on Current
Therapy, Bill says:
If the free radical hypothesis of neuronal degeneration is correct,
the administration of L-dopa (which can be metabolized to form free
radicals) could increase the rate of progression of Parkinson's disease.
What is the currt evidence about the free radical hypothesis? And
the current level of belief in the field? Is there evidence that the rate
is accelerated?
It makes me feel a bit like Dorian Gray, with Sinemet and Eldepryl
giving me a substantial relief from the symptoms, BUT with a later price to
be paid. Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing others about this.
Again, Bill Johnson, a very well done job.
