Hello Danish Students: The Vitamin C is used in the aqueous dissolution of Sinemet tablets as an antioxident. This is done because the active drug substance, levodopa, is quickly oxidized in such an un buffered solution. A more practical way to prevent the rapid oxidation, and recommended for use by prescribing physicians, is to dissolve the tablet in a glass of orange juice. Even with the Vit. C or orange juice, the levodopa remains stable for less than 24 hours. This instability is the reason there currently is not a commercial source of liquid levodopa. Best regards, Joe Irr
