*Hello* to PARKINSN subscribers. I have learned a great deal from you all
and appreciate this fantastic resource. My Dad lives in Ft Worth and has
been diagnosed with PD, probably having had symptoms for eight or ten
years. He had been prescribed the Sinemet/Eldepryl regimen for the last
few years for a PD-like, but undiagnosed, malady. A recent significant
downturn in mental state (lots of confusion and dramatic hallucinations)
appeared about the same time that Permax was added. The Eldepryl has been
dropped and he is feeling much better, but somewhat afraid to get his
hopes up. My Mom has gotten some much-needed sleep in the last few days.
I live in the Tampa Bay area (Palm Harbor) and keep in close contact
via phone and can occasionally visit; very hard to be this distant. They
are planning a trip in the next few weeks to a recommended expert in
Houston, a Neurologist named Janowitz (phonetic spelling). Does anyone
know of this man and his staff? I would appreciate any comments.
He has had recent MRI and EEG work with no significant findings by the
local interpretters in Ft Worth. What of these things should be taken to
Houston? In what form? In advance, or at time of visit? I know that they
should get these answers from the Houston Dr, but I thought that
others' experiences could maximize the value of the trip.
Are there any other specialists that can be recommended in the
Dallas/Ft Worth area? I have gotten my folks to attend a support group in
Ft Worth this week and, after getting over seeing the more advanced cases
in the room, had a very positive experience. They're supposed to start an
exercise group today! So after a few years of denial, they are beginning to
reap the benefits of action.
One last question: is there any connection between my Dad's
sensitivity (severe allergic response) to aspirin and sensitivity to PD
meds? He is on about the lowest dosages of the different things, so
adjustment to reduce hallucinations is tough.
Thanks for any advice as well as info posted in the past. Barb, you
own a GREAT list.
