P Hi, I'm new to this. I am a graduate nurse at the university
of Iowa.
P My mother has had parkinson's for a few years now. She is 76
yrs. old.
P She has gradually become more immobile, using a walker, has
little desire
P to do much except sit. She still reads and plays cards. My
sister helps
P her with her bath otherwise she does the sponge bath routine.
She has
P been on Sinemet, but her new doctor has increased that dose
and also has
P started her on Permax. We have not seen any improvement yet,
but it may
P be too soon.
Sinemet and Permax, but specially Sinemet, are the best
drugs available today. Permax helps to boost the effect of
Sinemet. The problem is that is not a perfect drug. After some
years produce quite a bit of side effects. I suggest that you
ask to the American Parkinsons Disease Asstn. 60 Bay Street,
Suite 401 Staten Island N.Y. or call 800 223 2732 for a PD
Referral Center near you, and ask them for the basic handbook
they published. To be informed is how you can help your mother.
By the way, if she doesn't want to do anything... let her
alone. She can't helped. Maybe the increase in the medicine will
help.
