I work at the University of Virginia and have just read that the UVa has been
selected by the American Parkinson's Disease Association (APDA) for Advanced
Research. According to the article a grant was awarded that will support
formation of an Information and Referral Center which will refer patients to
specialists in the state and provide information on support groups and other
available services. A 24-hour phone system has been established to take
patient calls at (804) 982-4482. In addition the the Referral Center a date
base of PD patients will be developed to facilitate clinical drug studies and
to track the family incidence of the disease. Dr. Fred Wooten is the medical
director for the center.
