Several weeks ago EKH asked if anyone knew if there would be a difference in an individual's response to the drug if they took two Sinemet CR 25/100 tablets instead of one 50/200 Sinemet CR tablet. I volunteered to find that answer and, although a little slow in coming, here it is. I interviewed the physician who did most of the clinical research on Sinemet CR prior to its approval for widespread use. He tells me that there should only be a very minor difference between use of one 50/200 and two 25/100 Sinemet CR tablets. He said that if a patient is OFF at the time the meds are taken, the two lower dose tablets might provide sufficient levodopa just a few minutes sooner than the larger tablet. So, if used first thing in the morning, ON may arrive a few minutes sooner. He wants to emphasize, however, that the difference is quite variable and of short duration. He also said to remind Sinemet CR users that the duration of the response should be the same no matter which tablets are taken. I hope this is useful information for you EKH and any other CR users.
