Hi Judy, I am not the person you were responding to in your post on swallowing impairm ents and PD, but I have a question nontheless. My mother has been complaining for some time about having difficulty swallowing dry things, and she also has problems taking her parkinson meds. She has adopted the habit of burying her pills in applesauce and then swallowing them that way. She says that sometim es even water seems to be choking her. None of her doctors (either here or in Fla. ) have referred her to speech therapy. Do you feel this is a real threat, and should be addressed? She is having physical therapy and nursing care daily, but she is not being faithful in following routines or exercises. While she is here, I prod her on to go and do, but when left alone, she withdraws into hersel f. Thanks for your valuable contributions to this list. I am sure you are much appreciated, as are many of the others who generously contribute their ideas and expertise. Lynn Lowe [log in to unmask]
