Here is a copy of the press release from the Salmon Arm Sonnet Contest
for all those who might be interested:
"SALMON ARM IS SPAWNING SONNETS AGAIN"
"Poets are invited to participate in out 1995 literary contest. 14-line
entries should be iambic pentameter in rhythm, and petrarchan or
Shakespearean or Modern in rhyme. Sonnets are exact, elegant,
entertaining. Not-quite-perfect poems will qualify for the "Un-sonnet"
category. For specific information contact Professor Les Ellenor,
Okanagan University College, Salmon Arm, BC, Canada (604) 832 2126.
Suggested topics: Family Ties Separation Refugees Sea-life

Prizes: $500 for 1st, $300 for 2nd, and a book by a Canadian author
for each of ten 3rd place winners. The best un-sonnet will receive $100;
the best juvenile sonnet, $50.
Limit: 2 poems per person with entry fee
of $6 per poem (all $ are Canadian). Entry fee for juvenile category, 18
and under, $2, with poem typed on school letterhead. Cheque or money
order payable to Salmon Arm Sonnet Contest. Mail entries to P.O. Box
1270, Salmon Arm, BC, V1E 4P4. Closing date for entries is June 1st.
Winners will be announced on Canada Day, July 1st. A copy of the winning
sonnets will be sent to each entrant by the end of July."-
