Dear H. W. Laswi: I deal with constipation with 2 herbal lexatives: Senna
leaves and Cascara Sagrada (dried tree bark). Senna is supposed to be the
milder of the two; they work in reverse for me. I always take a cascara
in the morning and then add in the evening when necessary. It usually
takes 8-10 hours to work so you have to be patient. I find them in a
health food store. My neurologist has found them to be very effective
for most of her patients and has "prescibed" them quite widely.
They provide an option to the higher powered medicines and since
they work more slowly they may offer more control. Good luck. Bob Newbrough
