Dear H.M. Laswi's father: Constipation is a common disorder associated with PD. Many times it is a serious disorder which will not respond to laxatives, high fibre foods, or lots of fluids. If a week goes by and in spite of all you try there is no bowel movement it is time for action. Talk to your doctor about having a Visiting Nurse come to your home and give you an old fashioned soapsuds enema. She/he will know about loosening a fecal impaction and other even more effective enemas like warm milk and molasses enemas (not suggested for diabetics) or oil retention enemas. You just may need weekly intervention by the VNA (Visiting Nurse Association in the states) or VON (Victorian Order of Nurses in Canada). Barbara Yacos, R.N. <[log in to unmask]>
