It would be a big help if someone would explain the difference between MAO type A and type B. Since I'm only a college grad and don't have an "MD" behind my name, I probably don't know much, but my understanding is that Elderpryl is a type B, which DOES NOT conflict with cheese, milk, Prozac, Nardel, etc. I have been taking Elderpryl and Prozac for about six months. I'm not dead yet, even though my wife sometimes says I smell that way, and I can offer the statement that Prozac is about the best drug I have ever had to put aside the depression. It DOES take about two weeks, there are no noticable physical side-effects, and for the first time in years I'm not plagued with bouts of "funkyness." As a PDer, I was able to really get down and get depressed about my lot in life. To describe the result of Prozac on the thought process, it would be to say that I recognize the same problems as before, but my mind just won't travel to the depression area. Unlike so many of the other anti-depressant drugs, Prozac does not cloud my thinking process and does not make me sleep. It comes highly recommended by my neurologist, who is well learned in the difference between type A and type B MAO's. As with anything written on this board, I hope that each of you do a complete research on the advice you receive before acting. All of the drug manufacturers have phone numbers and scientist more than willing to discuss contraindications. Go to the source. And eat lots of BBQ.
