>PACEMAKER FOR PD:
There is a surgical procedure which involves implantation of a stimulating
electrode into the Thalamus. The stimulator can be turned on and off by the
patient using a magnetic switch which is embedded under the skin of the
chest. The stimulator provides a high frequency square wave (approx 160 Hz,
11-12V) which helps to alleviate tremor. There are several neurosurgeons
who perform this procedure.
