Norman: Tell me more! What exactly are the arguments for getting rid of the test in favour of WAC? In what ways does the test interfere with the WAC program--or is it just that WAC makes it redundant? I think I know some of the answers from the general drift of conversation on this matter but I'd like to hear your views. This is an interesting development in view of Laurences "grain of sand in the oyster" analogy--the argument that a writing test is one way t get a university off its duff and thinking about writing. Are you saying that once it's done that job of inspiring WAC, then it's no longer needed? Our grain of sand has been sitting in the oyster for some time with no measurable effect, pearl-wise, but we're working on it... Doug Brent, U of C
