Patrick, Thank you for your summary of some of the arguments McGill made to forestall a writing competency test. I think they can help me explain to our WAC faculty (and potential WAC faculty) why what they do is so important, and why surface competency cannot/should not be the primary objective. I am particulalry interested in your point about anticipating "regression" -- I had not realized that this had been studied and "proven". It makes a lot of sense to me. Philippa [log in to unmask]
