I am enclosing some information that I was sent when I requested info on PD and
alternative treatments from fellow subscribers on a holistic health discussion
group, similar to this one on PD. This person did extensive research on
Alzheimers and although they are two different diseases, it is believed that
many of the underlying mechanisms are similar, if not the same. These
mechanisms may also play a part in other autoimmune diseases. I am providing
this research I received for information only, and make no claims as to its
correctness or the effectivity of the treatments described. I do, however,
encourage everyone to use it as a basis for further research and discussion. I
personally am exploring numerous alternative methods, but would encourage
anyone seriously interested in alternative methods to contact a naturopath or
holistic doctor (as well as your neurologist), before taking alot of different
supplements. If nothing else, you won't know which is working best if they are
all tried at once. Herbs, while natural and generally safe, are strong
medicine (many modern drugs derived from them), and some shouldn't be taken
over long periods or under certain conditions, etc. So, read up and I'll try
to pass on other information as I get it. I intend to compile a list of
resources that I personally have used and that have info on alternative
treatments, etc. and forward that list to this discussion group so that each
person can do research for themselves. I personally am still learning myself,
and don't want to endorse any particular methods. One's that I have found
helpful, and are harmless, are acupuncture, Tai Chi, exercise, and meditation.
As I explore others, I'll try to relate my experiences (if anyone's interested
that is). Take care.
