Dear members of the PARKINSN list: This will be my good-bye to the list. It was a great experience for me (as a non-PD) to follow your discussions. When I read your letters every morning, I felt the positive feelings between you, and it made the days good for me, too. Thank you. Of course you can always reach me at <[log in to unmask]> The reason why I joined the list back in July 1994 was an experiment: we would like to introduce some students to the educational benefit of computers and Internet. Five students ("our Danish students") joined the list in September 1994 and stayed on the list for the rest of the year. Their final report was distributed to the list; the topic was the patient's point of view (contrasting the traditional pharmaceutical things like how to make pills, the biological fate of the drugs and so on...). They also made a poster to the anniversary (December) of The Royal Danish School of Pharmacy. In my opinion, these students are now good ambassadors for PD. In the fall of 1995 we may contact you again, or we should take another disease, like Alzheimer, for a new group of students on the net. One of the great days was when Jan and Paul Potter visited Copenhagen and we (the Potter's, "our Danish students", and yours truly) went out to get a glass of beer together. Thank you so much! We hope that you like Hawaii. Did you get my snail mail letter some time ago? A great aloha to both of you! During the last two months I have tried to get the Danish Parkinson Association interested in joining you on the PARKINSN list. I have mailed copies of all your letters to Mrs. Joyce Schmidt (the chairperson). Unfortunately, they have decided not to subscribe. My personal feeling is that Joyce is still a little scared of computers, these dangerous creatures! On March 1, 1995 there was an interview in one of our largest national newspapers ("POLITIKEN") on PD and in particular on the possibilities for transplanting embryonic cells. The researcher, professor Jens Zimmer, has no results to offer "here and now", as I understand that the research has a longer time-scale. I suggested to him that he should subscribe to your list, and as there are now TWO subscribers from Denmark, he did! Jens, mange hilsner fra mig, pas godt p medlemmerne, de fortjener det! Alas, today I will unsubscribe and then there will again be only one participant from this country. FYI, the e-mail address of Jens Zimmer is: <[log in to unmask]> Yesterday, Marcel Guillot <[log in to unmask]> and his lovely daughter Sophie (fortunately, she speaks Danish) came to visit me. He is a member of the French Parkinson Association (Federation des Groupement de Parkinsoniens), and we had a nice talk. Have a good time, Marcel, I think you are back in France by now. Last but not least: Dear Barbara-the-list-owner. I am very impressed of all the good work you are doing. You deserve all the best in the world! And the best to all of you on the list! Sincerely, Erling Sonnich Thomsen, The Royal Danish School of Pharmacy, Universitetsparken 2, DK-2100 Copenhagen O, DENMARK
