Dear Elaine, Thank you for responding to our introduction. I am sorry to hear that you are in a similar situation and hope the best for you and yours. Our situation has even more complications in that Kathi's father and step-mother really do not want to waste time and money getting a second opinion, and his current neurologist does not much believe in these 'new' procedures. We just want them to get a second opinion from the top specialists in the field since there are no such specialists in the Detroit area that we know of. In any case, here is some information on the Barrows Institute: Dr. Abraham Lieberman and Dr. Matthias Kurth (602-406-3434) are neurologists who do an initial evaluation of the patient's present condition (about 45 minutes) and make recommendations on what procedures might help the patient. One possible recommendation is whether the patient is a candidate for Pallidotomy. Pallidotomy candidates are referred to Dr. Shetter (602-406-3469) who is a neurosurgeon at the institute. The two or three times that we have contacted the institute by phone they have been very helpful. Kathi's sister (who has lived in Flagstaff, AZ for 15 years) has been looking into the institute. She has a number of medical contacts in Pheonix and has heard nothing but good things about Barrows. If you mother lives in Pheonix, by all means get her over there! Please let us know how thing go. Best of luck, Jim & Kathi Mitchell %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% >Jim, >I saw your message about efforts to persuade your dad to go to Barrows for >a second opinion.
