Wednesday morning

To all:

I am one who tried the Nikken mattresspad and insoles, attempting to see if
sleeping and walking in a magnetic field would be helpful, especially with
the RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome) I had been experiencing. I used the pad and
the insoles for about a month.

Not sure what Jim Clements, who is a very nice gentleman, meant in his letter
today in stating he has had no feedback. As alluded to in his sentence
following that statement, I reported to him in a telephone conversation 7 or
8 weeks ago that, regrettfully, I had experienced no changes in sleep
efficiency or in any other way as a result of using the mattresspad, and
while the insoles felt kind of good in my shoes, I can't say they had any
beneficial effect on me otherwise.

I have an open mind about research into the use of electromagnetic fields as
a therapy for various disorders, including PD (witness my willingness to give
these aforementioned products a try), but I must honestly report that, so far
as I could detect, my trials of these items produced no improvement (or
deterioration) or any other change of any kind.

That's the bad news. The good news, as I reported here a couple of weeks
ago, is that my RLS has virtually disappeared following the total elimination
of caffiene (principally, caffienated coffee and related beverages) from my
diet. I commend making a similar dietary alteration to any of my PD brothers
and sisters with sleeping problems (isn't that most of us?) in general and
RLS in particular. It is my suspicion, furthermore, that caffiene may
exacerbate Parkinsonian symptoms other than sleeping problems, as well as
medicinally induced symptoms.

As I think about it, I've known for many years, pre-diagnosis, that I was
"sensitive" to caffiene and had to strictly limit any coffee intake to the
morning hours or have trouble getting to sleep that night. Hmmm.... wonder
if that's an early indicator of neuronal deterioration. Anyone else notice a
similar caffiene sensitivity for many years prior to diagnosis?

Best regards,

Larry Allen

P.S. Jim, per our last phone conversation some weeks back, I still have the
mattresspad and insoles boxed and ready to go, awaiting your instructions.
You said there might be an interested party in Seattle who could just stop
by and pick them up and that you'd get back to me. Let me know.
