The internationally acclaimed actress, Lynn Redgrave, has graciously agreed to serve as National Honorary Chair for the Parkinson's Unity Walk. Her involvement in our cause will surely give a great boost to our publicity efforts. We are deeply grateful to Ms. Redgrave. COMMITMENTS GIVEN BY NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS All five national organizations APDA. NPF, PDF, UPF and The Parkinson's Institute have endorsed, or intend to endorse, the Parkinson's Unity Walk. Their commitments include financial grants to help us meet expenses. "PARKINSON'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH" IN NYC The office of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has tentatively agreed that the Mayor will make a personal appearance at the New York City Walk, and will at that time declare October to be "Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month." We will receive confirmation three months prior to the Walk. TRANSPORTATION FROM THE SUBURBS Bus transportation to the Walk is being arranged for people who live in the tri-state area suburbs, many of whom would otherwise be reluctant or unable to make the trip to the city. We anticipate that the availability of buses will increase considerably the number of participants this year. CORPORATE CAMPAIGN IS UNDERWAY We have begun soliciting corporations for financial and in-kind donations to help us meet expenses. Responses have been positive so far, and include an offer to give us free use of the outdoor sound equipment we will need at the Walk. INCORPORATION STATUS We are on our way to becoming the Parkinson's Unity Walk, Inc., a non-profit corporation. This process takes time, but it will allow us to better serve the Parkinson's community.
