A magnetic field is a static field whereas an electromagnetic field is generated from an alternating current, such as the power lines mentioned above. I guess the possibility is there. but MRI's are generally recognized as safe by the FDA and the magnetic fields used by these machines is in the range of 1.5 Tesla (15,000 guass). There are some concerns that electromagnetic fields may be associated with the development of cancers. Some articles that I have read the researches seem to think that it is the magnetic portion of the electromagnetic field that is causing the problems. A permanent magnetic field is generally recognized as harmless. After all, don't we live on the worlds largest magnet? All the best, jim
