As a smoker, I was rather hoping to use PD as an excuse not to quit.  :)

Are you sure it was PD?  Nicotine stimulates one type of
acetylcholine
receptor and a few studies have suggested some mild improvement in
symptoms
when given to patients with Alzheimer disease.  Please don't take
this as a
suggestion that smoking is a treatment for any known disease!!!!
These
studies may, however, lead to useful types of treatments in the
future.
