To the listmembers
An answer to a question about April Awareness.

In Canada, the Parkinson Foundation and some
of the independant Societies have a
Parkinson Awareness Month (or Week) in April.
So, what happens in April in Canada:-

April is the time when all the chapters and support groups in
the Foundation do something to raise public awareness of Parkinsons.
-tell their friends and neighbours about Parkinsons
-organize a public meeting or other event
-have an information table at the local shopping mall
-sell freshly cut tulips ( in Canada red and white tulips
are the floral symbol of Parkinsons)
-the list of possible events is very long
I must not forget
The CUT-A-THON --a fundraising and awareness event --
It will happen in communities from the Atlantic to the Pacific
on Sunday 30 April. What is a CUT-A-THON? The following
piece about the Newfoundland CUT-A-THON appeared in our
latest Newsletter.

HAIR STYLISTS DONATE DAY TO PARKINSON CUT-A-THON

Sunday morning----it is time to relax, but in St John's, Newfoundland, 55
hair stylists are getting ready to go to work. Sunday April 30 is the
1995 Parkinson CUT-A-THON and stylists from six top salons have
volunteered their time off work to Shampoo, Cut and Blow-Dry and raise
awareness of Parkinsons in Newfoundland.

Pre-arranged appointments fill the day, but there is lots of time to try
a different look. New clients and regulars, everyone paid $20.00 to
Parkinsons at the time they booked their appointment (Cut-Line 754-4428).

Last year's CUT-A-THON was a very special day. Smiling volunteers
welcomed clients, gave out Parkinson information and made sure that
everyone took home a gift package of hair care products. One salon had
live music, all had prizes for clients, and at the end of the day there
was a draw for the beautiful floral arrangements.
