After lurking for a couple of weeks, it's time that I introduced myself. My name is Larry Casson, I'm here because my dad has recently been diagnosed with P.D. He's 72 and until recently has been in excellent health. He's been moving more slowly over the past year which we initially attributed to aging. However more recently, he has been having problems with balance, especially when rising from a seated position. The neurologist that examined him also detected some asymetric stiffness in his limbs, but no tremors. A CAT scan showed nothing unusual. He is up to 600mg l-dopa per day (Sinemet I believe, I'm not sure of the exact schedule) with no apparent improvement after 8 weeks. Thanks to you guys, I've found some sources of information, as well as leads to specialists in movement disorders in the NYC region. Two members of the list have referred to a drug that supposedly slows the progression of PD. Would anyone care to name the medication and perhaps comment on its effectivness or provide a reference? If I turn up any information that might be of interest to you, I'll certainly post it. Meanwhile, thanks for your presence here. -Larry Lawrence P. Casson [log in to unmask]
