Hello, My name is Ossie, and my mother (Barbara, age 57) was just recently
diagnosed with PD. I am wondering about a few things:

     1) I know that PD is caused by a lack of dopamine, and I was
wondering are there any foods or other ways to increase to amount
of dopamine that the body creates, (even a small amount)? She has
already been prescribed L-Dopa, however She has complained of
     side effects.

     2) I have not as of yet been able to locate a locale support group in
my
area. I live in Burling ton, North Carolina, (Raleigh, and Greensboro
are
the closest large cities.) My mother lives in Wilmington NC. I have
been
told that the closest group is in South Carolina. Are there any groups
any
     closer?

     3) Can PD cause a weakened mental state? My mother a usually sharp
woman has had trouble rembering things I am wondering if this could be
caused by PD or could it just be age?

My mother is still in the early stages. The only symptoms she has show so
far are slowness of movement, some mild ridgity, and she has fallen down on
once when trying to cross the street ( much to the dismay of a few drivers).
Is there anything that I can do to help slow the onset of PD?
